Kattarhryggur

Kattarhryggur, known as "Cat's Spine" in English, is a remarkable geological formation in Iceland. Located in the rugged and scenic region of the Westfjords, this unique ridge resembles the spine of a cat, with its jagged and undulating appearance. The name perfectly captures the ridge's distinct shape, which stands out against the dramatic landscape.

It was here we stopped, and offered candy and good vibes to Huldufólk, the Hidden People, the elves of Iceland. We hope they enjoyed our offering, and if the weather was an indication then they definitely did.

Church

Akureyri Church, with its strikingly modern design, stands out against the traditional Icelandic architecture that surrounds it. Currently undergoing renovations, with the steps being replaced, this prominent landmark is known for its unique combination of contemporary style and traditional elements. Inside, the church offers a serene space filled with beautiful stained glass windows and intricate woodwork, making it a peaceful retreat in the heart of the town.

Botanical Garden

The Akureyri Botanical Garden is a vibrant and colourful oasis, offering a stunning array of plants and flowers even in the colder months. In winter, the garden transforms into a picturesque snow-covered wonderland. The interesting band pavilion within the garden adds a charming touch, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll or a quiet moment of reflection amidst nature's beauty.

Centrum

Centrum is a modern and stylish café located in the heart of Akureyri. Known for its excellent coffee and beer selection, as well as a range of premium wines, it’s a popular spot for both locals and visitors. The chic atmosphere and friendly service make it an ideal place to unwind after a day of exploring.

Botanical Gardens Cafe

The Botanical Gardens Café is very modern and hip, providing a serene setting within the lush surroundings of the gardens. Offering really good coffee and a selection of beers and premium wines, the café is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty around you. Whale Watching

Whale watching in Akureyri is an unforgettable experience. During one tour, we were fortunate to spot three humpback whales, accompanied by the entertaining commentary of a funny guide. The tour also offered sightings of various birds, adding to the excitement. However, be prepared for cold and heavy winds, so dress warmly to fully enjoy this incredible adventure amidst Iceland's natural marine beauty.

Hotspring

Just outside of town, scalding hot water comes straight out of the ground in a stream, and is used by local spas.
