Antwerp

Antwerp, a vibrant port city in Belgium's Flanders region, is renowned for its rich history, cultural diversity, and dynamic arts scene. As one of the world's major seaports, Antwerp has long been a hub of international trade and commerce, contributing to its cosmopolitan atmosphere and architectural grandeur.

The city's historic centre is dominated by the impressive Cathedral of Our Lady, a stunning Gothic structure that houses masterpieces by the Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens. Nearby, the Grote Markt, with its ornate guildhalls and the iconic Brabo Fountain, serves as a lively gathering place surrounded by charming cafes and restaurants.

Antwerp's artistic heritage extends beyond its historical buildings. The city is home to the Royal Museum of Fine Arts, showcasing an extensive collection of Flemish art, and the Museum aan de Stroom (MAS), which explores the city's connection to the world through its innovative exhibits. The Rubenshuis, the former home and studio of Peter Paul Rubens, offers an intimate glimpse into the life and work of the renowned artist.

My time in Antwerp was work related, meeting various shipping agencies, and so I have no photographs of the place, but it’s somewhere I’d like to return to.
