The alarm at 4:30am signalled the start of one of the main adventure elements of the trip. We would white water raft down the river to a lodge in the middle of the jungles of Costa Rica. We would then spend some time hiking and doing various other activities on the second day and then do some grade 3 and 4 rapids on the final day.
I spent a long weekend in Bratislava with some friends for a stag-do, we explored the town, toured some bars and went white water rafting.
We went down to the edge of the river and broke out into teams. There were two groups who wanted to do grade five rafting, but I, the six mad men and one mad woman all managed to get into the same boat and we made it clear that we wanted to go extreme.
At 5am again, we crawled out of the hotel, all bags in hand and paid over the odds for a taxi to the Hotel Tradition where we would be staying after the rafting to leave our unneeded bags behind.
