Fårikål is Norway's national dish, and its position was reaffirmed recently in a national vote. It is a deeply simple meal with only six ingredients assuming you count water as an ingredient.
- Black peppercorns
Rough cut the cabbage and Lamb.
Coat the lamb in the flour.
Put the water in the bottom of the casserole dish and layer the lamb, then on top add cabbage, peppercorns and salt. Repeat until you run out of everything.
Bring the water to the boil and then leave to simmer as long as you like at least two hours, but overnight in a slow cooker will make the lamb particularly tender.
Serve with new potatoes and butter.
It is not the most flavourful, or exciting meal, and the house will take on the unmistakable fragrance of boiled cabbage for quite some time,
